A little over two weeks ago the story broke of the decision by the Eagle Valley School Board to pass a Resolution to put a $6.9 million dollar Building Bond Referendum on the ballot this November.

I’m sure this raised eyebrows and rightly so, that’s a lot of money and “Why do we need to do this?”  Since its publication many questions, concerns, ideas, and conversations have taken place within our school community.  I would like to provide additional facts and details in order to better inform our voters and to respond to some initial reactionary issues and concerns

First, I cannot emphasize enough that the information, budget and preliminary drawing was very general and preliminary.  It a starting point in the process.  The article provided the public with general and very preliminary information on the proposed project based on prior work, research and discussion by our Board administration, and staff which identified the facility needs EV has and will have over the next 20-25 years.  A great deal of time, thought, discussion, research, weighing of options, and discussions with our neighboring districts went into this very difficult and challenging decision.  You may recall last January at a Special Board meeting, the Board made a commitment based on current and projected enrollment, the district’s finances, and the prevailing loyalty to having, sustaining, and growing our own Pre-K -12 school district.  Needless to say, a lot of effort went into this decision, prior to the January Board meeting and up to the June Board meeting when the Resolution was passed.
