Dear EVS School Community:
For the past two years the EVS District has been working with a variety of School Committees to update and revise our Crisis Management Policy, procedures and systems. The safety and security of our students, staff, and community members has been a priority with much time and resources spent to implement a workable, realistic, and necessary Crisis Management Plan utilizing school and community resources. Many improvements and upgrades have taken place, most notably our security camera system at each entry/entrance, phones in each classroom and our Instant Alert System. We also schedule planned and unplanned “events” such as fire drills, lockdowns, and tornado drills, in order for students and staff to practice and be prepared should a situation arise requiring these types of action. Alongside of these efforts we will continue to work with our school community resources to develop policies and procedures designed to respond appropriately to the numerous emergency’s that can occur.
In light of the tragic event of Sandy Hook Elementary we are implementing an additional safety procedure to ensure the wellbeing of our Eagle Valley students, staff, and community members. This improvement is a Main Entrance security camera/entry system, which was recently installed, and will be operational at the Clarissa School Building starting February 1st. The procedure for entry will be as follows:
All entry/exit doors will be locked during school hours. Doors will be locked after 8:15. The Main Entrance door (#4) will be locked once students enter the building and access to the building via the main entrance will only be assessable through a buzzer system. If you wish to enter the building after 8:15 you will be required to press the buzzer mounted on the left side/east wall. Simply push the buzzer; our receptionist will then assist you. A camera monitors this entrance and the screen is located and monitored in the main entrance.
Further details of these procedures will be available to our school/community upon completion and will be available on our web site, www.evps.k12.mn.us.
Again, we take the safety, security and wellbeing of our school community very seriously and are so fortunate to have the trust and confidence you place in us for school safety.
Should you have any questions and or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Barry A. Johnson
